Maps in the Trail Guides

Map coverage in the system starts somewhat south of Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks and goes north through the John Muir and Ansel Adams Wilderness areas, then Yosemite, Emigrant, Hoover, Mokelumne, Carson Iceberg and ends with Desolation Wilderness west of Lake Tahoe. There are some overview maps used mainly for locating a particular region, and then a continuous scrollable topographic map of the whole Sierra. Scale of this map is 1:125,000 with mainly 80' contour intervals (40' in Desolation and 200' in Yosemite).

Portions of the map can be printed to show a particular trip. The system identifies the 7 1/2" USGS quadrangles that might be of interest within a particular area, while at the same time the altitude and UTM coordinates of the point beneath the cursor is continuously updated and displayed.

Features and trails and picture locations can be illuminated on the map, and by clicking on any of these you can bring up photographs and/or begin walking.
